Skate Brands
For a parent who didn’t, themselves, skate as a kid or even still skate as an adult, choosing that important first pair of hockey skates can seem like a really tough decision. Luckily, there are plenty of skate brands from which to choose that important first pair. The downside of this abundance of choice is that many people find the amount of choice overwhelming. There are simply too many brands to be able to make a choice without looking into each brand before finally purchasing a pair. If this process of looking into the different brands is not done with a deadline at which time the decision must be made, and the skates bought, the process can go on and on for weeks or months on end.
Narrowing The Field
When choosing skates, it’s a good idea to get an idea of the price range that each brand runs. If your child is just starting out with skating, it might not be necessary to choose a brand that runs at the top of the price range. In fact, it might even be a waste of money because not only might your child end up not really enjoying skating, even if he or she really likes skating and wants to stick with it, they are going to outgrow their skates in short time. Even if they plan to go back to skating the next winter, the skates probably won’t fit any more at that point.

Skate brands are available with a lot of different price families, so it’s a good idea to get a preliminary idea of which brands fall into which price ranges. This way, when you are in the store and the salesperson is recommending different brands to you, you can have a general idea about which brands are within your price range and which ones are beyond it before your son or daughter even begins trying on the individual pairs of skates. You can even inform the salesperson of your price range when you begin, or tell him or her a few brands that you’ve looked at online based on their pricing.
Proper Fit
Another thing to remember when choosing skates with your son or daughter is to make sure that they fit properly and that they are skates that are going to be safe and minimize the risk of injury for your son or daughter. While pricing is probably important to you, proper fit is probably just as important, if not even more so, since it will impact your child’s health and safety. Different skate brands are best for amateur child skaters.
