Goaltender Rules

Anyone who’s been playing hockey for a fair amount of time knows that observing the rules is not always the way that the majority of players go. If this were not the case, there would not be so many instances of penalties and events in which some of the players get into huge fights with one another. When it comes to following the rules, hockey is not the only sport in which the majority of players break the rules every so often, in fact, as far as sports go, hockey might just be one of the sports that has the least rate of incidence for penalties. Brawls on the ice, however, are quite a common occurrence.

Within general hockey rules, there are quite a few guidelines that goalies have to follow, from rules about the game to general guidelines about equipment that must be observed. The goalie equipment regulations become especially important because it is quite easy for a goalie to hide illegal equipment and use things that are not within the rules and guidelines. Sticks and other equipment must meet general guidelines and all goalies must be in compliance with these rules.

On The Field & Ice

In addition to the equipment-related rules, there are rules for how the game must be played. Field hockey goalkeeper rules are specific to field hockey and do not apply to ice hockey; however the field hockey goalies have to comply just as strictly with their respective set of rules as ice hockey goalkeeper rules must be followed by ice hockey goalies. Goalkeepers have tough rules when it comes to the moves and places where and how they are allowed to do what. The bottom line is that rules must be followed or players risk being penalized or spurring the anger of the opposing team.

New Rules

The NHL is always coming up with new rules and regulations for hockey. The new NHL goalie rules, each time that they come out, are debated hotly until the community accepts that the new rules are there to stay. As modern technology and engineering take hold of just about all sports, it becomes increasingly important to come up with new NHL goaltender equipment regulations. If they don’t keep up with the technology as it changes, goaltenders could come up with new and better ways to beat the competition, and not in an entirely physical way. The NHL wants to keep the sport honest, with the players relying on talent and teamwork instead of engineering and technology.
