Goalie Skates

To anyone who has done a fair amount of ice skating or playing hockey, it is crystal clear that there are different ways to skate and that some of these ways to skate are different according to what you have to do on the ice. Some goalie skate repairs can be avoided by having a proper pair of goalie skates in the first place. Since a goalie does not move the same way as skaters do on the ice, the blades should be different from a general skater’s blade. CCM goalie skates take this into consideration, as do the many other brands that make a specific model of skate just for the goalies on the team.

Nike Bauer goalie skates take the frequent movements of goalies into consideration when designing their Bauer goalie skates. While it is, technically, not a problem for a goalie to wear regular skates during play, if you think about the goalie’s skating during a game and look at the goalie skate radius and the way that he moves within his zone, it is obvious that his movements are quite different from the movements of the other skaters on the team.

Goalie Skating Techniques

While goalies don’t skate as much as the other players on a team, they still do need to have strong skating skills because the skates will always be on their feet, from start to finish. Strong skating skills are required because goalies do skate and when they need to skate, they need to do it lightning quick and perfectly fluidly. In the vast majority of situations, what they need to do is more like running on the ice than like skating on it. Goalies have to be able to move quickly from side to side and do this not by skating but by moving their feet. Goalie hockey skates have to cut into the ice and grip it differently than the skaters need their skates to perform.

Inline Goalie Skating

While the techniques for inline skating goalies are similar to those used by ice skating goalies, inline goalie skates are different in that they don’t cut into the surface. This is the fundamental difference between the needs nad design of goalie ice skates and inline goalie skates. This fundamental difference is something to remember when checking out Graf goalie skates and many other brands of skates designed just for goalies. Getting the specialized skates will help amateur skaters excel in their own domain of the game.
